SANDRA AeroMACS activities and results presented at WiMax Forum Aviation event

Washington, 10-11 September 2013 – SANDRA partners have been invited by WiMax Forum to present SANDRA AeroMACS activities and results during the WMF Aviation 2013 event in Washington 10-11 Sept. WiMAX Aviation 2013 was a success! Collocated with the WiMAX Forum Member Conference at Hilton Crystal City in Washington, DC, USA, this first Aviation Event drew more than 100 attendees bringing together the key players of the Aviation Community and WiMAX ecosystem to discuss opportunities for WiMAX in the Aviation Community. Attendees were treated to a full two-day program, including speakers from WiMAX vendors, airlines, airport authorities, various government representatives from the United States, Europe and Asia, and other groups.

WiMAX Aviation 2013 illustrated the tremendous potential and highlighted the interest in delivering broadband wireless services to the Aviation Industry using WiMAX technology. The event cultivated thoughtful discussions on a wide range of topics that included the big-picture vision and strategy for airport systems in the 21st century and more specifics, such as AeroMACS trial deployments and certification for AeroMACS equipment and devices. Three presentations by SANDRA partners have been provided: Massimiliano Amirfeiz (Selex ES) presented “SANDRA AeroMACS activities and results”; Fred Durand (SITA) “Network and Security Considerations for AeroMACS panel discussion. A service provider’s view”, P. Troyer (Selex ES “AeroMACS prototype development and Industry Perspective”. All SANDRA presentations have been well received and raised lots of questions. Among SANDRA results which attracted particular attention: ATN/OSI over IP based datalinks including AeroMACS, AeroMACS as a possible VDL2 congestion relieve, ATC/AOC protocol segregation via IPSec.

“We couldn’t have been happier with the quality and candor of the technical and commercial discussion”, said Declan Byrne, President of the WiMAX Forum. “We were particularly impressed by the participation of such important international figures such as Nancy Graham, Director of the Air Navigation Bureau, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), whose remarks made clear to participants the international support for this new market segment for WiMAX”.
